📲 How Many Calories Should You Be Eating?

See this content in the original post

“Josh, how many calories should I be eating?”

It's a question I get asked ALOT.

By new clients when we first start working together.

By people in the gym.

By random people who find out I'm a nutritionist.

I used to answer with “It depends”.

Now I answer with:

Before you come at me with a pitchfork, yes calories matter.

But, today I'm going to teach you 2 things about calories.

1. Busting the myth of calorie calculators

2. Whether you need to know how many calories you need to eat in a day

Let's start with Calorie Calculators.

One of the most overrated, and useless ways nutrition professionals try and suck you in.

“Download my FREE Calorie Calculator”

“It will tell you exactly how much you need to eat for your goals”

They do this to suck you in to their lead magnet funnel and flood your inbox with emails!

Mind blown right?

How did you not realise they were doing that?

Here is the real issue.

Calorie Calculators only give you an ESTIMATION of how many calories you need to eat.

No matter what formula you use, and there is many.

It's ALWAYS AN ESTIMATION.

How do you find out if it's accurate?

You follow the targets for 1-2 weeks CONSISTENTLY and see if they are right.

If you maintain weight, they are your maintenance calories.

If you lose weight, you're in a deficit.

If you gain weight, you're in a surplus.

But remember that word, CONSISTENT!

Now you know they are an estimation, let's answer the second question.

Do you need to know how many calories to eat in a day?

No. You don't.

Only if you intend to track your calories.

Which leads to another question I often get.

“Do I need to track my calories?”

Also no.

88% of my clients DO NOT TRACK THEIR CALORIES.

They don't need to.

They don’t know how many calories they need either.

(I don't even know how many calories they need… because it doesn't matter)

Whether you have a weight loss goal or not.

There are other ways you can change their nutrition to achieve you goals.

If you want to learn how to get results without tracking your calories, that's where we come in.

We would look over what you currently do CONSISTENTLY.

We'd look at what OBSTACLES are getting in the way of you and your goals.

We'd come up with a few ideas of areas you could change.

We'd then ASK YOU what you'd like to work on.

We'd BRAINSTORM solutions with you then you'd pick the one you like the most.

We'd turn that into an ACTION PLAN with you to help increase your chances of SUCCESS.

All without doing any calorie calculations or using My Fitness Pal.
